I had already eaten half the fish before I took the pic. Big Bens is my GO TO for fish and chips. Ive tried a lot of places in the city and theirs is by far the BEST. Amazing price for the huge hunk of fish you get. And their house made tarter sauce is BOMB. There was a time when I when once a week for a month or two, itβs just so good. Ive never once been disappointed and Iβve had the fish at the very least 15 times from Big Ben!
Great English Pub with the most amazing bartender. Our first time here, but I'll definitely be back.
Not impressed. Don't bother with anything that is listed as a pie - you're better off getting something frozen from the grocery store. Got a "steak" and mushroom pie - I put steak in quotes because it is not steak - it's low quality stew beef and maybe 3 tiny mushrooms, drowned in overly salty beef stock gravy in an incredibly thin and tasteless puff pastry. My girlfriend got fish and chips and it was dripping with grease and had no flavor. Can not believe how much they are charging for this stuff.
Good pub food. Friendly staff. Tough parking at lunch!
The best english pub in Charlotte, their full english breakfast is as close to the real thing as you can get! Don't miss this one! Great atmosphere!
Big Bens is one of the best pubs in the area. The food can take a minute to get to you, but it is made to order and is absolutely some of the best pub food I've ever had. Great live music, great food and beer. Ashley and Susan are killer waitresses that will always make sure you're taken care of. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a great pub experience.
Awesome bar... Ashley and Susan were awesome. Great food.. coldest beer in Charlotte!! Great place to watch a game or chill out love it! Long live Big Bens !!!
Just experienced the worst customer service here. We had a group of 4 seated at 8:45 for a late dinner on the patio. The bouncer told us to go find a table and a server would be with us soon. Ten minutes go by, then fifteen. No server, no menus, no water, no silverware, nothing. One of us runs in to check on things, weβre told a server will be right out. Ten more minutes pass. Two servers come out, point at our table and chat, and walk back in. Ten more minutes pass. No server. We left and went to Shake Shack. Unacceptable customer service after being seated for 35 minutes.
We LOVE Big Ben Pub. The outside doesnβt convey whatβs going on inside. Waitstaff is great, prices are fantastic, and the food is (shockingly) even better. Their cobb salad is amazing, and I add their delicious blackened salmon on top. Their fish and chips are also notable. Portion sizing is impressive. Happy to be a regular here!
Back patio was a perfect place to sit and have a drink and appetizer!
It's a great place to enjoy the college games let's geaux LSU
Great drinks, good food, and friendly employees! Can't wait to go back.
Haddock was good. Apps were underwhelming. Good Guinness draft and fun space. Nothing to write home about. Also 20% service charge, which I wasnt really mad about, but I wasnt sure if it was a forced tip or from covid. I didnt want to stiff the waitress but sure didnt want to tip 40% either. Maybe put a disclaimer? Maybe im just dumb, Idk.
Great atmosphere and staff
Fish n chips... you just have to do!
Baker is the best bartender of all time and really gives the best suggestions about charlotte
Great people watching while eating fish and chips.
A nice place to sit outside and have some live music and bottled beer on a Saturday
My husband went in on 8-8-2020 to have a late lunch. He went inside to get a place to sit down and was told , " I CAN'T SEAT YOU INSIDE BUT CAN PUT YOU OUTSIDE !!!! OUTSIDE I. 70 DEGREE HEAT !!!!! When he said no , he was brushed off and the hostess sat 3 of her friends inside at the last table !!! My husband isv70 yrs old and doesn't need to be sat in 80 DEGREE HEAT !!!!!! How DARE YOU !!!!
They do not have any protocols in place to prevent COVID spread. Not requiring masks of staff or customers and packing people into the patio. Gross. Wonβt ever return after their lack of care about the virus spread.
The band on the patio is excellent well deserving of 5 stars and the reason I will come back. The male bartender was very rude; cursing, pulled equipment cords out while the band was playing and refusing to serve people since he closed bar seating in whole because he is misinformed on covid regulations. Food was great and the band definitely turned a bad bar experience into a good time, just wish they had more servers outside so we did not have to wait so long for drinks.
I frequently visit this restaurant because of there excellent breakfast and draft Guinness. This time I was extremely disappointed. The place had far too many tables and people were literally packed in, we were back to back not more than a foot away from the table next to us. At least five tables shouldβve been removed. The worst thing though was only two of the servers actually had masks on, the rest of the employees including kitchen staff had masks under their chin. On Top of this a good percentage of the customers werenβt wearing masks while walking around. My well Prepared full English breakfast was spoiled by the uncomfortable feeling that the place is now just a hang out By people not taking the pandemic seriously and endangering the health of those that are. As a side note my hot tea was lukewarm
Below average food with terrible customer service
R&B music and hip hop really
The place was empty and I sat for 2 seconds outside with my dogs and I was asked to leave. I understand but the lady was rude
Great food and nice atmosphere. Been multiple times with no issues.
Iβve heard great things about this place and just moved to south end... walked in and asked to sit at the bar, we go in and immediately feel sticky. I ask for a Clorox wipe of some sort and they say βoh! We just paintedβ ok?? Shouldnt there be a sign up?? They say sorry, there shouldβve been. For the first weekend after quarantine, youd think theyβd care more about customers! I will not be back. Did not see any cate from staff.
Nicely decorated British pub, only stopped in for drinks but the appearance was fantastic, must try the food next time.
Great pub with great British food
I got a drink fairly quick but that's it. She asked if I wanted a menu and I said yes. The bartender kept doing other side work and not paying attention to me walked by me at least 3 times and didn't take my order, felt like I was being ignored for about 20 min. So I walked out. I came here because the food is phonomial love the Shepard pie. But service is lacking.
Cold food
Nice, fun Irish pub. Shepard's pie was good. Nice size beers.
Pleasant pub with traditional British brews and food. Staff were very accommodating. The haddock fish and chips could pass for a "fish fry".
First visit here was great. Had the Welsh Welsh rarebit as an appetizer. It was perfect size for two. The cheddar was great. Ordered the cornish pasty. The portions were bigger than expected. The pasty was light and flaky. The rich gravy was perfect for the pasty and mashed potatoes. This place will be added to the must stop Charlotte list.
Great food
Food was ok. Parking was difficult. Service was excellent. Curry too salty, scotch eggs too bland, fish excellent. Mixed bag, not worth the parking hassle.
We stopped in for a quick snack to check it out. Late Sat afternoon, not too crowded. Great service! Had potato skins, then the apple cobbler. Both were delicious. Definitely worth checking out!
First time visit was great. Had the Welsh rarebit as an appetizer. Perfect size for two with a great cheddar cheese. I ordered the cornish pasty. The portion was way bigger than expected. The pasty was very light and flaky and cooked perfect. It had just the right amount of rich gravy to accent the pasty and the mashed potatoes. This will be added to the Charlotte must stop list for sure.
This place is fantastic. Friday nights they have live music, always free. It's also the only place in town to get Shepard's Pie, which is a dish my Uncle always recommended. Big Ben Pub is a wonderful night spot that should definitely be visited by groups, couples, or you can go solo like me and make new friends every time!
Good food and beers
Food and drinks are good but it's quite pricey.
Chill vibe with delicious food and many beer options. Our waitress was superb! We had the fish and chips and it was outstanding!
My family and I enjoyed it love the food. Thank you Marcus and staff awesome services
Good food, prompt service and good choice of beers/cocktails.
Good food, nice atmosphere
The Haddock n' chips is delicious; perfectly beer battered and flakey fish with steak fries! We went on a Thursday and all traditional entrees were $12.50 excluding steak options. I was not impressed with the drinks but it was a cool atmosphere, even with very few guest.
The first time we ordered dinner from them it was AMAZING! The second time mediocre. This time, the third time will be our last. The portions are inconsistent as is the quality of food. I am sorry, I really wanted to like this place but it's too inconsistent and this time my food was inedible.
Big Ben used to be very dingy and had an unclean feel to it. I hesitantly went again a couple of weeks ago with friends and, to my surprise, the entire place was renovated. Looks great and we had a pleasant experience.
Enjoyed very much
Great place and hailey is a great bar tender
